This document contains release notes for op5 Monitor 5.5.0. The document is intended to give brief information about the new release. It is directed towards staff responsible for managing op5 products.
What’s new
The main focus for this release has been on our configuration interface (Nacoma) and the GUI (Ninja). Close to 240 issues has been included in this release, including both new features (30%), fixed annoyances and bugs. A detailed list of all resolved issues can be found at https://bugs.op5.com/changelog_page.php?version_id=254
Support for Nagios 3 features
This release adds support for adding objects on groups (e.g. Services on hostgroups) which can be very helpful, particularly in large environments, when you would like to add the same set of services to a number of hosts. Just assign a service to the hostgroup and all hosts will get the same service added to them.
Multi Delete
Adding new objects to your configuration has always been pretty simple with op5 Monitor and now it is just as simple to remove a large number of them. Removing hundreds of services/hosts or an entire servicegroup has never been easier.
Maintain functionality
Renaming a host or service in previous versions, usually made you loose historical data like logs and performance graphs etc. Deleting an object, on the other hand, left all the data behind for no use. In op5 Monitor 5.5.0 we have added lots of functionality that takes care of this automatically. This means you will no longer have to worry about loosing historical data or filling up valuable disks space with unusable data.
Usability improvements
Saved searches: If you use the search functionality a lot in op5 Monitor, you now have the option to save your favourite searches and always have them available on every page.
Search on notes and comments: If you have a lot of valuable information stored in notes on an object, we will now search for this as well.
Search in scheduling queue: The scheduling queue can get quite big on some systems and finding the information you want can sometimes be a daunting task. That is why we added the possibility to search (and filter) on the Scheduling queue page.
Free text filter: Free text filters are a really fast way of locating specific data on a page and we have now added this feature on Comments, Schedule downtime, Scheduling queue and Alert history.>
Enhanced Alert history: We have rewritten the Alert History page, adding support for host- and service groups and making it a bit easier to use.
Widgets on external web sites: Sometimes you might like to make some parts of your monitoring available to other users in your organisation. This release makes this possible without the risk of letting anyone have full access to op5 Monitor.
Multi select objects: We have added the possibility to select multiple items on scheduled downtime and comments pages to make things easier when you wish to delete a large number of objects.
Authentication fallback: When, for instance, using centralized LDAP authentication and the LDAP server goes down for some reason, the entire organization might end up “blind” when it comes to their monitoring. By making it possible to configure op5 Monitor to use a fallback authentication, this might help organizations to be prepared for this.
Updated NagVis and Geomap
A new version of Geomap is included in this release. Instead of only using Google maps, you now have the option to choose between Google maps or OpenStreetMap.
Note
Please note that upgrading a very large system might take quite some time due to a database maintenance job that needs to be done.
In order for the “Scan host for Windows Services” to work in the configuration editor (Nacoma), you need to install the latest op5 NSClient++ agent (0.3.9.327 or 0.3.9.328 depending on architecture) available from downloads.
