op5 Monitor 6.1 includes a wide range of upgrades and new features, many of which focus on enabling user customization. We are trying to address the challenge with more and more data is accumulated, increasingly from outside the physical company environment. With that comes the need to be able to find and interpret the right data at the right time within this massive data stream, packaged in such a way that the user can understand and act on it without delay. The new approach in op5 Monitor 6.1 enables the necessary flexibility in an easy-to-use format. While traditional monitoring solutions have been designed by and for technicians and are often daunting to navigate and adapt, the data and presentation in op5 Monitor 6.1 can be refined down to an individual level, directly in the GUI, through a structure of available filters and list views.

We offer Free one to one Phone Demos where we show you how op5 Monitor 6.1 can be customized for your organization. You can send us your details by filling out the form or by sending us an email at info@op5.com

News in 6.1

Filters and List Views
op5 Monitor 6 is capable to monitor far bigger environments than ever before and that leads to new demands on how the data volumes need to be presented and filtered. We are now introducing Filters together with a new List View that makes it possible to customize the views.

Trend Analysis and Failure Prediction
Failure Prediction, a feature that can utilize historical performance data to predict when a service will hit warning or critical levels – for instance, that hard disk space may run out in the next few months, allowing these issues to be handled well in advance. op5 Monitor 6.1 also supports Adaptive Thresholding, allowing for a more flexible way of setting warning levels that takes historical business loads and recurring traffic peaks into account, thereby further reduce the number of alarms caused by sudden but not un normal peaks or loads in the data center.

Additions to the API
In this development step of the API we will provide a way to extract the data from your op5 Monitor system.

Here are a list of some of the exciting news in op5 Monitor 6.1

API improvements

In this development step of the API we will provide a way to extract the data from your op5 Monitor system.

Filters and List View

op5 Monitor 6 is capable to monitor far bigger environments than ever before and that leads to new demands on how the data volumes need to be presented and filtered. We are now introducing Filters together with a new List View that makes it possible to customize the views.

Trend analysis

By calculating historical graph data we can now predict when a service will hit warning or critical level. As this feature is added as a normal graph template, this information will automatically be available in all standard reports.

Other news

Sorting of comments in reversed chronological order

Updated our Nagvis version to 1.7.3

Made Ninja icon set default in Nagvis

Create custom columns from custom variables in listview

Make it possible to select what columns to show (and in what order) in the new listview (per user setting under My account)

Make number of columns in Tactical Overview customizable (global setting)

Dynamic action button in service details (extinfo) by the use of custom variables.

Added a plugin to monitor domain expire date (does not work with .de .no .at .ch since these domains don’t publish expiry date in whois).

Disclaimer

Please note that this is a beta version and is not intended to run in any type of production environment. It is intended to be used for test and evaluation purposes only.

We are very exited to improve Monitor even futher with the stable release of op5 Monitor v. 5.7, which includes various new features and fixes. The main features are listed below. The full release notes can be found here.

API

Version 5.7 of op5 Monitor focuses on providing an API to be used for getting information in and out of op5 Monitor. op5 Monitor uses HTTP Rest API which is an industry standardized protocol. The output can be in json, xml or html.

With the API is it possible to easily integrate with tools such as (but not limited to):

CMDB (Configuration Management DataBases)

Device managers. When using a device manager to add or modify attributes of an object, the changes could be updated in op5 Monitor as well.

Automatic host config via agent. When installing an agent it can contact the central monitoring system and add itself.

With the possibility to get data out from op5 Monitor it is easier to create new way of presenting the data such as (but not limited to):

Smartphone apps

NOC consol

Customer portals

Custom variables

op5 Monitor 5.7 introduces a new functionality called “Custom variables”. It is now possible to add custom information to every object in op5 Monitor. This feature can be used to store extra information and makes it possible to use data from other sources in op5 Monitor such as (but not limited to):

CMDB data

Location

Model number

It is possible to add and modify custom variables by, for example, using:

Web config GUI

Config files

Web API (see above)

The info in custom variables can be used by plugins in MACROS which makes op5 Monitor more flexible.

Schedule Downtime Retrospectively

A problem in some organisations is that planned service maintenance is forgotten to be entered into the monitor system. The SLA reports and availability reports will show that the systems and services has been down, which might lead to penalties. This feature allows to add planned downtime after the actual downtime has occured. Of course it will be visible in the report that the scheduled downtime has been added afterwards.
