AFA Insurances installed op5 Monitor in order to monitor its IT infrastructure.
AFA Insurances is a large contractual insurance company that had problems in monitoring their IT infrastructure. Their previous monitoring solution required an enormous amount of time and resources. After much frustration, many complications, and long hours of wasted consultations, it was time to try something new. Today, AFA Insurances monitors everything from Windows and Unix servers to the temperature in their data centers, using op5 Monitor.
“The basic installation was completed in only three days and then we had fully functional Windows monitoringin place. After another week, the Unix monitoring was also in place. Today, we are very happy with our monitoring solution” says Per Chressman, engineering manager in charge of engineering and IT operations at AFA Försäkringar.
“Open source products were something new to us and I suppose we were a bit worried about how it would turn out, but we found the solution very attractive in terms of cost. Now we get what we want out of it in an easy way and we know that we get good support from both op5 and from IPnett when we need it.”
“Since we knew our customer AFA Insurances was not getting what they wanted out of their old monitoring tool, we naturally wanted to help out with a sensible alternative. AFA had looked at op5 Monitor at a trade fair and we went over their requirements and wishes”, says Thomas Rosén, sales manager at IPnett. “We are well familiar with AFA Insurance’s IT environment and their problems with monitoring, so that is why we recommended op5 Monitor.”
Today there is an unit within AFA Insurance’s IT department equipped with visual displays, where graphs show how the infrastructure is performing. It is easy to see what is going on, with a good overview of how all the systems are functioning. The engineer on duty will be instantly notified if something goes wrong outside of working hours, and can take direct action to prevent the serious consequences that might have resulted if the error had gone undetected until the following morning.
When the morning technician arrives at work, he or she can directly check to see if there is anything requiring attention. In this way, AFA Insurance has moved away from manual monitoring and op5 Monitor now manages the surveillance automatically. All that is required is to look at op5 Monitor to see if everything is green or red.
“We are very happy with our choice of monitoring tool. op5 Monitor has become a natural part of our IT environment,” Per Chressman concludes.
AFA is an insurance organization with approximately 500 employees. Their main office is located in Stockholm and the organization manages capital for about 190 billion SEK.
